3G iPhone Bangs Nail in iPod Coffin by McBay

3G iPhone Bangs Nail in iPod Coffin by McBay
There are a range of great portable music players on the market but the most popular by far is the one that was launched by Apple Inc on the 23rd of October 2001. I can hardly believe that it was that long ago that Apple first launched the best selling digital music player of all time. We have come a long way since the first devices that when you see them now are large in comparison to the tiny nano models that first became available in September 2005.

Technology has moved on since and the first generation touch screen version launched in 2007 with the top of the range model with 32gb of storage. This marked the evolution of the music player. The touch as it was named when officially released allows you to browse the internet using Apple's browser Safari and send and receive e-mails and even watch video from YouTube on the move.

The name came from a freelance copywriter who was contacted by Apple to plan how to introduce the product to the public. After seeing the proto type Vinnie the freelance copywriter thought of the film 2001 a space odyssey and of the phrase "open the pod bay door Hal". The iPod was born. The name was researched and it was found that it had been trademarked in July 2000 and had been used for internet kiosks.

Closely following the launch of the touch came the iPhone which was very similar in looks but packed with features that you would expect to find on a phone like a 2.0 mega pixel camera, internet access, email and more. The iPhone has not see the uptake in the UK that was expected as there are a range of mobile phones that have music playing features that normally come free on a pay monthly package. This could all change with the launch of a 3G version that will allow faster internet speeds and will be subsidised with a monthly contract so that the 8GB version comes in at one hundred pounds with the basic contract and free on a higher monthly contract so will this kill off everyone's favourite music player? We will have to wait and see. I'm going to trade in my old Broken iPod
