iPhone's new brother - iPhone 3G saw daylight on July11, 2008 and was released with the intention to fit business people and to bite a piece of the corporate market, in the detriment of RIM's Blackberry. The new iPhone brings about the 3G technology and new improved features.
One important improvement is the bigger battery that can go up to 10 hours of talk, 6 hours of Internet and 24 hours of audio playback. This new improvement triggers a change in dimensions, but this is not very relevant considering the actual benefits.
Other improvements for the existing applications are the possibility to search for contacts, the possibility to save images from your e-mail, an increased storage capacity of 8GB and 16GB, an assisted GPS and many others.
As new features, Apple has introduced: a scientific calculator, iWork application, Mobile Me application and real 3D graphics.
If some features are being improved, if others come as brand new, some features stay the same. One of the latter is the 2.0 MP camera that did not suffer any modifications, in spite of all critiques.
However a new feature was added, namely the "geotagging", which attributes geographic coordinates to an image.
Also, the memory capacity remains identical to the original iPhone - 128 MB DRAM and both Bluetooth and WI-FI connections are present.
As major lacks, 3G still does not support Java applications, can not send MMS messages and can not video record, unless a third party application is installed.
After summing up all the pluses and minuses, iPhone 3G remains one of the best smart phones on the market and a big challenge for competitors.
